Hebrews 1:6
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
Verses 4 – 6 are comparative verses, comparing Christ with the angels; in name, in incarnation, and in inheritance; however, verse 6 goes further than verses 4 and 5. It is in His incarnate state that God the Father declares that all the angels of God should worship Him. This was a new thing, to worship a Man on earth, by the angels. They had worshiped the Son of God in heaven, and on His mystical throne on earth, but not as the Man, Christ Jesus. What a wonder to behold, here were the angels of God worshipping a babe in a manager, a Man on the earth. And His name would be called Jesus, or could we say, like Isaiah, “wonderful, counselor, the Almighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”Â
At the direction of God the Father the holy angels of God would worship the Man, Jesus Christ, and thus by their worship declare from heaven that Jesus Christ is God.
On the angel’s part this was a new thing, they could not worship Adam, nor any of the descendants of Adam, not David, or Solomon, nor Daniel “a man greatly beloved.” This was a proclamation of God the Father to His holy angels to worship the Man, Jesus Christ.
Why should we spend so much time on the subject of His Deity? Well, I would think, that if God is going to take the whole first Chapter of Hebrews and go over and over the doctrine of the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, that this would be one of the first avenues that Satan wants to deny. He has blinded the world to the truth of Christ’s Deity. I am reminded repeatedly when I see the symbols of the smitten Christ still on the cross that He is not there — He has risen. His Deity upholds the work of the cross, it confirms His resurrection; so, for us who believe He is no longer on the cross, but is risen from the dead, He is most precious. Though, as children, we only see in part — our part is in the risen Christ and His Word. The world of religion has tried their hardest to take away the Word of God and the incarnate Christ, but God blessed forever they have failed. For the individual who loves the Lord Jesus, the more the mysteries of God are unfolded through His Word, the higher and fuller the Christ of glory is seen. In the position of Deity without any restraint, and without any bounds, He gave Himself for the sin of the world. Paul in his writing said, I knew a man in Christ, whether in the body or not he could not tell, this man ascended into the third heaven, and saw things that could not be described — they were too wonderful for words — and he could not describe all the wonders he beheld. It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. (2 Corinthians 12:1-4)
These are the mysteries of God; however, we are given a window into heaven through Paul’s experience, we have here the testimony of such things from the Word of God. The Spirit of God enlarges the mysteries to us. It was Paul caught up by the Spirit, it was Elijah in the fiery chariot, it was door in heaven opened for John in the Revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have the mysteries of God fully explained in 66 books of His love towards us. If we desire a door opened in heaven, the Spirit will instruct us in all the love of our Master for us. It was God manifest in the flesh, Deity raised from the dead, ascended up to glory and is sat down on the right hand of God. John at Patmos sees a great vision as recorded in Revelation 4:5 of the Lord sitting upon the throne and all heaven worshipping Him that liveth forever. Amen.
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:1-11)
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. (Revelation 5:12-14)
And let all the angels of God worship him.
